Dear ConvinceYourMom.com,
Don't be fooled when Bush or Cheney tells you that they can keep you safe and no one else can. They like to trot out the fact that since 9-11, there have been no more terrorist attacks on US soil. This is true, but it's also true that when the WTC was attacked back in 1993, we didn't have another foreign terrorist attack on US soil for 8 years. So by the Bush administration's own logic, it could be argued that Bill Clinton kept America safe from foreign aggression for the remainder of his time in office. Don't be fooled when George W Bush says he has your safety in his mind first and foremost. Front and center in his mind is getting another four years at the helm of our country. All other concerns are secondary. If you don't believe me, look at Bush's record on the Department of Homeland Security. Bush was against the idea for the first few weeks in which it was being suggested. Bush said he could protect us and didn't need a new bureaucracy to help. But as soon as he saw that most Americans favored the creation of a cabinet-level Homeland Security Department, he changed positions and started saying he favored it. My friends, this is what Bush-supporters call a 'flip-flop'. Don't be fooled when Bush tells you he's doing all he can to ensure your safety. As of right now, Bush would rather keep cutting taxes for the extremely wealthy than fully fund Homeland Security. This was driven home during the first presidential debate, when Kerry mentioned that over 90% of shipping containers that come through US ports are not inspected. Bush's reply was to rhetorically ask how something like that could be funded. So, tax cuts for rich people are good, and making sure bombs and even human terrorists aren't being stowed away on US-bound ships is bad? Don't be fooled when Bush tells you he deserves another four years. Sincerely, Jared R. |
